Overview
Cement-free walls for a slow-fashion store
Khanijo, a slow-fashion label, wanted its New Delhi store to say what its clothes say: natural, handmade and made to last. Instead of cement plaster, the key interior walls of the 800 sq ft store are finished in Agrocrete® plaster, made with our cement-free binder BINDR™. The plaster breathes, resists cracks, and stores an estimated 0.3 tons of CO₂ in the walls.

The brief
Material honesty, inside and out
The store was conceived as a contemporary space for craft and fashion, grounded in material honesty. The brand stands for slow fashion and artisanal production, and the interior had to carry the same values. The team wanted wall finishes with natural texture that would stand up to daily use, without the high carbon footprint of conventional cement plaster. The walls also had to feel calm enough to let the clothes take centre stage.

Why not cement
The problem with cement plaster
Cement plaster carries a high carbon footprint, tends to crack over time, and traps moisture. In Delhi's climate, trapped moisture can lead to damp walls and surface condensation, which is the last thing a clothing store needs. Khanijo was looking for a finish that would avoid all three problems while giving the walls the calm, natural character the brand wanted.
What we supplied
Agrocrete® plaster made with BINDR™
GreenJams supplied Agrocrete® plaster for the store's key interior walls. It is our cement-free bio-concrete, made from agricultural fibres, industrial by-products and BINDR™. BINDR™ is an alkali-activated mineral binder made from iron and steel slags. It gains strength fast and uses up to 90% less water than cement. The plaster is lightweight, breathable and non-toxic, and it was applied across the store's key interior walls.
On site
Faster to paint-ready walls than cement
BINDR™-based finishes are paint-ready in 4 to 7 days, against 24 to 30 days for conventional cement plaster. That shortens the gap between plastering and handover, which matters on a retail fit-out where every day before opening has a cost. The plaster was applied with the same trowels and methods plasterers already use, so no special skills or equipment were needed on site.
The results
Walls that breathe and resist cracks
The plaster regulates moisture naturally, improving indoor air quality and cutting the risk of damp and condensation. Its fibres give better crack and impact resistance than cement plaster, backed by our warranty against cracks, termites and dampness. Subtle tonal variation and a tactile surface give the store a calm backdrop that suits handcrafted garments and textiles. The finish became part of the brand experience.

Carbon impact
An estimated 0.3 tons of CO₂ stored
Agrocrete® plaster stores carbon permanently inside the material. Across the store's key walls, we estimate it holds about 0.3 tons of CO₂, based on the plastered area and plaster thickness. More importantly, the project shows that low-carbon materials are not limited to blocks and structure: the finishes inside a building can store carbon too, wherever cement plaster would normally be used.
