Overview
From a pilot to a 44,200-block order
A pilot shows a material works. A repeat order shows it is worth buying again. Within months of finishing its 1.8 km Kapurthala wall, ITC Ltd came back to GreenJams for a 2.6 km perimeter wall at its site in Sandila, Uttar Pradesh. The project used 44,200 Agrocrete® blocks, ran from December 2022 to July 2023, and stores 73 tons of CO₂ in its walls.
The brief
The same results at a larger scale
ITC's Kapurthala pilot delivered a wall 2.5x faster than conventional masonry and brought the project below its carbon baseline. The next test was scale. ITC wanted the same results on a wall more than 40% longer, using 58% more blocks. At this size, supply matters as much as the product: blocks had to arrive on schedule and in the right quantities along a wall running more than two and a half kilometres.
Why Agrocrete®
Proof from the pilot made it simple
ITC already had a working Agrocrete® wall at Kapurthala that had come through a monsoon without damage. The blocks met IS 2185 and IS 1725, so they fitted ITC's specifications. And the two climate benefits that won the pilot still applied: carbon stored inside every block, and crop residue such as paddy straw put to use instead of being burned in the fields.
What we supplied
44,200 blocks for a 2.6 km wall
GreenJams supplied 44,200 Agrocrete® Solid Blocks for the Sandila wall, about 1.6 times the Kapurthala order. Solid blocks are our load-bearing format, rated at 5 MPa or more, and made from paddy straw, fly ash and BINDR™, our cement-free binder. Every block carries a 10-year warranty against cracks, dampness and termites, important for a boundary wall exposed to the weather year-round.

On site
Seven months from start to finish
Work began in December 2022, straight after Kapurthala finished, and the full 2.6 km wall was completed by July 2023, about seven months. As at Kapurthala, crews built with standard tools and mortar, and supply scaled with the order without changing how the contractor worked. The larger project showed that Agrocrete® could be delivered reliably at industrial volumes, not only for one-off pilots.
The results
Below baseline for a second time
The Sandila wall secured ITC's site and once again kept the project below its carbon baseline, supporting the company's targets for capital projects. ITC moved from a 28,000-block pilot to a 44,200-block project in under a year. Together, the two ITC walls now run 4.4 km and store more than 110 tons of CO₂ between them.
Carbon impact
73 tons stored, 251.29 tons avoided
The Sandila wall stores 73 tons of CO₂ in its blockwork. Using crop residue that would otherwise be burned, and replacing conventional masonry, avoided a further 251.29 tons of emissions. For a large industrial company, that is a carbon benefit big enough to show up in its emissions accounts, delivered through a wall it needed to build anyway, with no change to how its contractors worked.
